COHABITATION AMONG STUDENTS OF NIGERIA TETIARY INSTITUTION.

It is no more unusual that cohabitation is one of the fastest growing trend among the students of our tertiary institutions, this bane has continued to grow unabated as it's being handed over from one set to the other, thus this makes it knotty to be remedied.
Perhaps, web definition puts Cohabitation as the act of living together and having a sexual relationship (especially without being married).
The reason students cohabit are not far fetched some students who agreed to have their minds on this issues say it is by living together that the so called "couples" get to know if they are compatible or not for marriage this they said is the reason they take the period of living together as "husband and wife" as a period to test their compatibility.
Perhaps, this most times sidelined their academics which is their primary assignment on campus as they dedicate a substantial part of their time to the future-unknown relationship, thereby living them with a little time for their studies which may in turn lead to poor academic performance and even some times as a result of woeful performance it may result to dropping out.
While some cohabitation students find it difficult to live apart because of the strong physical intimacy between them, the addictive prowess of sex over them makes them confuse sex and lust for love. A relationship that is rested on sexual intimacy makes it quite difficult for the 'couples' to face reality on their other problems as they are overshadowed by the sexual intimacy.
They begin to use sex as a way of convincing themselves that the relationship is thriving. Instead of the sexual act being a life-given act of mutual love, it is becoming a life-drawing and self-abuse of the other part.
More so, the need for companionship and fear of loneliness becomes so strong among students that they begin to think they cannot wait for marriage before living together. This eventually leads to insecurity especially on the part of the females.
most times these ugly trend leads to unwanted pregnancy which eventually most times leads to death in the course of abortion. it sometimes serve as the basis of poverty as student are not prepared to have family as at the time of cohabiting, no source of income except from parent which fund becomes insufficient to cater for both the lady and d illegitimate child.
Additionally, children produce from these sort of relationship as a result of improper care most times turns nuisance, they take to incriminating activities.
In the light of these,i would enjoin fellow students to avoid cohabitation as it would spare them the pain and grief of finding out that they were only being used rather than loved, sex and love are out rightly different.
